The Captain talks law enforcement

Good evening gentle reader,

Last night saw the Captain venture out to a flat warming party the other night, and a fine party it was too. That was until the plod turned up and turfed everyone out. Nothing untoward i hear you say but i disagree. Its Friday, Its 11:30 in the evening and the neighbours have earlier been made aware of said get together. Now i am pondering if there wasn't a bit of predjudice shown by the boys in blue here. I shall explain. Firstly the party was in the west end of Glasgow, a notoriously rough area so maybe the report of a disturbance (minor at best, i've seen far more raucous events and no sign of the feds) Made them panic and turf us out immediately. Not only that but for such a minor offence such as a loud party i didn't feel it really necessary for there to be 4 burly police officers in a paddy wagon. Also as far as i'm aware the police cannot enter a property without a: some sort of warrant or b: unless invited in. But i digress, turfed out into the night the police then buggered off leaving us (by this time only a sporadic bunch of taxi waiters remained) to fend for ourselves in as i mentioned before, a considered rough area. Had anything happened to us surely the police would've been at fault by putting us in this position in the first place, then not providing a little protection until the final couple of taxis arrived! As many people have said in the past, have they nothing better to do on a friday night than to get involved with what could laughably be called a disturbance?

A minor thing really, the party moved on to another location and a fine time was had by all but it vexed me none the less. I feel i should make it known i generally have a certain amount of respect for the police force in this country. there are a lot of rapscallions and n'er do wells and they deal with them so we, the general, law abiding citizens of this great nation can go about our day with little fuss. Last night however i think the ball was well and truly dropped!!!

I am hung over and tired now, I must rest.

The Cap.

  1. Hmm, this is a tricky one as I myself have been in the unfortunate position of being unbelievably hassled by inconsiderate neighbours making excessive amounts of noise as you may recall from the old days and the arsehole who lived upstairs - but in his case this was on an almost nightly basis, through the week, until ridiculous o'clock and with a constant influx of wasters (or students, apparently) and mess in the hall.
In the instance you describe I feel some leeway should have been allowed as it was a weekend. 11.30pm isn't beyond the pale. And even if the neighbours were bothered, it would have made far more sense had they come to the door and approached you guys first, possibly negating the need for the police! Bad luck sir.
